HIVPREVENTIONPROGRAM(SDG3)
In the newly released report by Uganda AIDS Commission, 2020 has ranked Kabarole district in Western Uganda as the district with the second highest HIV/AIDs prevalence rate, standing at 14.6%.To supplement one existing Government programs and interventions to prevent HIV/AIDS,KAFOP has implemented a number of programs and interventions in the Rwenzori region aimed at preventing HIV/AIDS.
Implemented HIV Projects
From 2010 to 2015 with funding from HIVOS a Netherland based donor, KAFOP conducted a 5 years project aimed at improving access to Health services among 500 Female Sex Workers from the 7 Districts of the Rwenzori region including;-Greater Kabarole, Kasese, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge ,Ntoroko ,Kyegegwa and Bundibugyo.The project focused mainly on promoting health rights of FSW’s ,HIV prevention, and empowering them with entrepreneurship skills. This resulted in training 50 Peer educators among FSW’s, approximately 350 FSW’ strained in entrepreneurship skills and 150 initiated small scale to supplement their income, two groups of KP’s in Kabarole were supported to register their Village Saving and Loans Associations(VSLA’s).
2017 with support from Baylor Uganda, KAFOP implemented a one year project. We were expected to provide a range of social services and basic clinic all services to referral referred clients, conduct referrals and link ages to the facilities ,update the registers, conduct OVC assessments, identification and enrollments as well as report to the Districts.
- Provision of Income Generating Activities such as art and crafts materials such as modern basket, shopping bags and mat weaving and start-up capital for caregivers ,parents, youth.
- Business skills training (small businesses) to caregivers ,adolescents ,parents/caregivers to be able to initiate small scale businesses as away of improving household incomes.
- Micro finance and credit services through training, forming and monitoring Village Saving & Loan Associations for adolescents, caregivers/parents and youths.
- Provision and referral of adolescents beneficiaries for vocational/ apprenticeship skills training ands tart up kits.
- Provision of seeds for commercial farming such as rice, onion seeds among others.
Food and Nutrition security services:
- Nutrition education support and counselling for children, adolescents care givers and parents.
- Provision of agricultural and farming inputs i.e. vegetables seeds such as spinach, sukumawichi, cabbages, carrots, egg plants among others.
- Provision of food supplements to malnourished children such as maize flour, soya flour, silver fish among others.
- Nutrition assessment
- Referrals for nutrition support or supplements such as RUTFA at health facilities.
Health, water, sanitation and shelter:
- Supported participants to access health care services such as Antenatal care, GBV services, T.B services, HIV prevention services i.e. Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP),Pre-Post Exposure Prophylaxis(PrEP),Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission(PMTCT),Elimination of Mother To Child Transmission(EMTCT) among others.
- Support to access HIV services through monitoring and supporting HIV Positive OVC to access ART treatment, Viral Load bleeding, linkage to Intensive Adherence Counseling(IAC) for non-suppressed OVC.
- Follow-up lost clients in ART clinics and bring them Back to care
- Distribute and conducted sessions on condom use
- Conducted sessions with HIV positive clients
- Form and conduct meetings with Peer adherence support groups for Positive clients.
