MHM is essential to the well-being and empowerment of women and adolescent girls. On any given day ,more than 300 million women worldwide are menstruating. In total ,an estimated 500 500 million lack access to menstrual products and adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management(MHM).To effectively manage their menstruation ,girls and women require access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene(WASH)facilities, affordable and appropriate menstrual hygiene materials, information on good practices and supportive environment where they can manage menstruation with out embarrass mentor stigma. According to WHO/UNICEF joint monitoring program 2012, menstrual hygiene management is defined as;
âWomenandadolescentgirlsareusingcleanmenstrualmanagementmaterialstoabsorborcollectmenstrualblood,thatcanbechangedinprivacyasoftenasnecessary,usingsoapandconvenientfacilitiestodisposeofusedmenstrualmanagementmaterials.Theyunderstandthebasicfactslinkedtothemenstrualcycleandhowtomanageitwithdignityandwithoutdiscomfortorfear.â
In2016,IriseinternationalapartnerinJinjatrained01ofKAFOPstaffinMenstrualHealthManagement.Keyareasoftrainingwere;puberty,understandingthereproductivesystem,Menstruation,taking care during menstruation, Myths around menstruation, dangers of poor MHH and how boys and other community members can support young girls during Menstruation. Since then KAFOP visited and trained schools in MHM/MHH and demonstrated on the correct use of re-usable sanitary towels.
